CEACAM8 / CD66b Protein Description
Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 8, also known as carcinoembryonic antigen CGM6, Non-specific cross-reacting antigen NCA-95, CEACAM8, CD66b and CGM6, is a cell membrane protein which belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and CEA family. CEACAM8 / CD66b contains two Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains and one Ig-like V-type (immunoglobulin-like) domain. CEACAM8 / CD66b is a single chain, GPI-anchored, highly glycosylated protein belonging to the carcinoembryonic Ag supergene family. It is an activation marker for human granulocytes. CEACAM8 / CD66b is a member of the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) gene family which belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. There are two subgroups of the CEA family, the CEA cell adhesion molecules and the pregnancy-specific glycoproteins, and seven CEACAM has been identified in humans including type I transmembrane proteins (CEACAM-1, CEACAM-3, CEACAM-4) and GPI-linked molecules (CEACAM-5, CEACAM-6, CEACAM-7, CEACAM-8). CEACAM family members are a set of widely expressed proteins involved in several biological functions, including cell adhesion, migration, signal transduction, and the regulation of gene expression. Abnormal overexpression and downregulation of some CEACAMs have been described in tumor cells.
