TMEFF1 (Transmembrane Protein With EGF Like And Two Follistatin Like Domains 1) is a protein coding gene located on human chromosome 9q31.1. TMEFF1 is also known as TR-1, H7365, C9orf2 and CT120.1. The human TMEFF1 gene encodes a 40934 Da protein containing 380 amino acids. The TMEFF1 protein is biasedly expressed in brain, testis and other tissues. MSANTD3-TMEFF1 is an important paralog of TMEFF1 gene. TMEFF1 is associated with Hyaline Fibromatosis Syndrome.

      Tomoregulin-1 Background

      TMEFF1 is a novel transmembrane protein, containing two follisatin domains and an epidermal growth factor-like region. The ectopic expression of TMEFF1 in brain cancer cells resulted in their growth inhibition. That TMEFF1 may behave as a tumor suppressor gene in brain cancers. TMEFF1 and TMEFF2 are putative transmembrane proteins comprised of one epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like domain and two follistatin-like domains. Both TMEFF1 and TMEFF2 are predominantly expressed in the brain.
